At one point in his young career, “The Heart of Fire” Derek Sanders was the most popular fan-favorite in APW. He was the Universal Heavyweight Champion for most of 2006, and he had the support of almost every single APW fan. Then something happened. Something changed. Sanders claims that the fans turned their back on him. The fans claim that Sanders turned his back on them. Regardless, Sanders attitude turned completely around, and along with his valet Payton, Sanders is now considered by most APW fans to be conceited, shallow, and completely self-indulged.
In his mind, however, he has every reason to be. He is one of the youngest wrestlers on the roster today, and he has already held APW Universal Heavyweight Championship in what proved to be a reign of over six months. His physique is perhaps the most impressive in APW today, with his raw power seeming to know no limits. Arrogant or not, Sanders does indeed have a lot going for him, and he has made it clear that 2007 will be another great year for the “Heart of Fire.”
