APW kicked off the new year with an exciting
show from top to bottom. This show had solid wrestling, good interviews, storylines and
everything you would have wanted in a show. It answered a lot of questions, but left us
wondering about even more than we did when we came in. Y2K is going to be a wild year for
APW, and this show was just the beginning. Shane Dynasty bought a ticket to this
show...The Main Event has a Special Enforcer Referee...Two of the top teams in indy
wrestling squaring off...The APW returns of Jardi Frantz & Donovan Morgan...and lots
more...let's get to the action...
|
|
|
"Fly Daddy" Jardi Frantz (with The Mack
Daddy XXXPress)
vs
Nathaniel Sweete
Frantz (minus Jimmy Ripp) making his APW return took on Sweete. The two
exchanged a few moves (including Sweete's cartwheel-elbow)...and although it looked like
it was going to be a fantastic opening match, it got cut short when Frantz hit a dive over
the top rope to the outside, and smashed Sweete's head into the concrete. Frantz took the
countout victory, while Sweete layed knocked out on the floor. He got up and was helped
back to the dressing room while he bled pretty bad from the back of his head.
Winner: Jardi Frantz in 3:37 ( * )

Interview with The Mack Daddy XXXPress
Christopher Daniels got the mic after the match, and let the fans know that Jimmy
Ripp no longer wanted to be a part of APW because of all the backstage politics. He also
said that since there was no more leader of the XXXPress, that tonight would be the last
night for the group. They all had seperate agendas now, and they would all go thier
seperate ways.
Before they left the ring, Tony Jones got the mic and told his side of the Jimmy Ripp
story. He talked about how Donovan Morgan & Ma'och went against Ripp, 2 on 1, and it
was unfair. He called them cowards and said that he still likes Ripp no matter what, and
he would like to get revenge for him sooner or later.

Interview with Style
& Substance

The group consisting of Jason Deadrich, Miss TnA, Bison Smith & Vance Vain came to the
ring for an interview. They each told thier resolutions for the new year, and then let it
be known that S&S may take in a new member tonight. They would be giving a tryout to
Portland, Oregon's 19 year veteran, Moondog Moretti.
Moretti made his way to the ring, and told Deadrich why he thinks he would fit into
S&S, and what he could bring to the team. They sounded impressed with his interview,
and now it was time to see what he could do in the ring. They called out rookie, Jason
"Vanilla Frost" Goodwin.
|
|
|
Vanilla Frost
vs
Moondog Moretti
After the dancing was done, Moretti got down to business. He attacked Frost and never let
up. The much larger and more experienced Moondog pounded away on the youngster. Bison
Smith, who was at ringside, got on the apron to lend a hand, but ended up getting in the
way. Frost ducked a right hand, and Moretti hit Bison. Moretti must have been distracted
by the mishap, because Frost rolled up Moondog for the pinfall victory.
Winner: Vanilla Frost in 2:31 ( * * )
Frost/Moondog Aftermath
After the embarrassing loss, the rest of S&S jumped in the ring and attacked
Vanilla Frost. Vance Vain & Bison Smith put the boots to him, until Lil Dic Grimes
& Donovan Morgan made the save, chasing them out of the ring and back to the dressing
room. Morgan, Grimes & Frost left the ring together.
As S&S walked back to the dressing room, they passed right by Shane Dynasty's seat.
Dynasty looked to be talking trash to Deadrich, just like any normal fan.

The Snott Brothers
vs
"Lil" Dic Grimes &
Sweetie Pie (with Cherry Bomb)
The Snott's came out dressed like computer geeks. Complete with pocket protectors,
suspenders & taped glasses. They worked pretty good together in this match, but they
were no match for The Freak Show. With Cherry Bomb at thier side, The Freaks tood control
of the match, and almost never gave it up. Dic Grimes tossed them around like yesterdays
news. An old Grimes family favorite, The Face Eraser showed up in this match, as Dic
planted Seymour Snotts face right into his brother George's groin! The end came when
Grimes & Sweeite Pie hoised George C. Snott high above thier heads, and nailed him
with a Double Grimes Cutter! A move we hadn't seen in about two years! The Freak Show is
going to be a force in the upcoming APW Tag Team Title Tournament. Other teams better
watch out.
Winners: The Freak Show ( * * 1/2 )

Frank Murdoch & "Mad Mosher" Boom
Boom Comini
vs
George C. Snott & Seymour Snott
This was a pretty good tag team match. Comini & Murdoch are former tag team champions,
while the Snott Brothers are trying to make a name for themselves. After a few minutes of
hot tag team action, Tony Jones made a suprise appearance at ringside, and told Frank
Murdoch something. Without thinking twice, Murdoch left the ringside area, and returned to
the dressing room with Jones, leaving Comini to fend for himself. The Snotts took
advantage, and used double team moves to wear out Comini. However, it still wasn't enough.
Boom Boom made a miraculous comeback, and was able to hit his big splash on Seymour Snott
for the three count.
Winners: Frank Murdoch & Boom Boom Comini in 6:48( * * )
Comini Has Some Words
After his match, Comini wondered where Frank Murdoch had went, and why he left
him in the ring alone. Boom Boom then made the decision that in 1999 he was too easy on
people...he is going to be even more brutal than ever this year. More chairs and more
tables he says. He also now wants to be known as "Hardcore" Comini.

|
|
|
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
vs
"Lil" Dic Grimes
This was a fantastic match. Two innovators of wrestling moves, going one on one for
the first time. These two exchanged offensive moves, and the crowd was really into it. The
fans were behind Grimes all the way. Half-way through the match, a fight must have broken
out in the dressing room, because all of a sudden, wrestlers began pouring out of the
locker-room. Grimes & Daniels stopped to see what was going on, but order was
restored, and the match continued.
Once order was restored, Nathaniel Sweete made his way to the ring. He must have recovered
from his earlier bump on the floor. Sweete was cheering on his fellow Freak Show teammate
Grimes.
"Lil" Dic hit some nice moves, like the Rope Walking Armbreaker, Face Eraser and
even Greetings From The Pink Poodle. However, in the end it was Christopher Daniels
hitting the Last Rights, and getting the victory, after a very good match.
Winner: Christopher Daniels in 11:20 ( * * * ½ )
Interview with Dic Grimes
Grimes got the mic, and suprisingly broke out of character and talked about how he didn't
like the Lil Dic gimmick, and he wanted to go back to being "Gigolo" Vinny
Massaro. The fans also wanted to see that. He shocked everyone by pulling the mask off and
telling APW President Roland Alexander that he was sick of acting like a monster, and sick
of hanging around the Freak Show. Nathaniel Sweete agreed, and said that maybe they could
get back together like the good old days when he managed Vinny.
All of a sudden, they were cut off by "Y2C" Cav Manning. Manning came to the
ring in his usual "Y2C" style. He wanted in on some of the action, and offered
his managerial skills to the two of them. Massaro wasn't interested, but Sweete seemed to
be. Massaro mentioned that he doesn't "go that way"...and was seemingly trying
to imply something. Manning kept trying to convince them to join him, but got frustrated
when Massaro wouldn't listen. Manning slapped Vinny across the face, and then tried to run
away. Massaro grabbed him, but was attacked from behind by Sweete. Sweete gave him a few
good kicks and left the ring with Cav Manning.
Nathaniel Sweete had turned on Massaro, just to join up with Manning. On his way out,
Massaro put Alexander on the spot one last time...saying "If i can't wrestle as
"Gigolo" Vinny Massaro, i won't wrestle for APW".

Interview with Style & Substance
Style & Substance was back out for another interview. They wanted it to be known that
they were not happy with Moondog Moretti's wrestling tryout, and they were having second
thoughts about letting him join. Miss TnA took the mic, and told Moondog he was too
"old school", and he didn't fit thier plans. She also said that she wanted to
see what Vance Vain & Bison Smith could do, and it would now be up to her if someone
wanted to get accepted into the group. Jason Deadrich just stood by her side and let all
of this happen.
TnA & Deadrich called for an opponent for Vain to wrestle, but with nobody else free
in the back, they decided to have Bison face Vain one on one and see who the better man is
|
|
|
|
Vance Vain
vs
Bison Smith
The match went pretty good, with Bison using his power moves (powerslams, clotheslines
etc.) on the much quicker Vain. The management team of S&S seemed impressed with them
during the match, and didn't seem to be siding with either man. However, Bison nailed a
big clothesline, and then when he was going for a second...Deadrich grabbed his foot.
Smith turned around to ask what was going on, and got rolled up by Vance Vain. 1...2...3!
Vain was victorious and Deadrich was the man responsible for it.
After the match, Bison shoved Deadrich. He was outraged, but S&S was able to calm the
big man down. Deadrich and Smith made up, and Bison appoligized for pushing Jason. It
seems like Deadrich & TnA have thier men right where they want them, and S&S is
going to be a tough group to deal with in the coming months.
Winner: Vance Vain in 6:15 ( * * )

"Funboy" Donovan Morgan
vs
Ma'och
This was a pretty even match-up. Both men gave it all they had, and the tide swung back
and forth. In the middle of the match, Tony Jones and Frank Murdoch came out and stared
down both men. Ma'och and Morgan were the two involved in the Jimmy Ripp story, and it
looks like Jones got a partner that was siding with him in this controversy.
APW security took Jones and Murdoch back to the dressing room so Ma'och and Morgan could
finish the match. There seems to be some legit heat going on in the APW locker room, and
that is not a good way to start the year off. Not long after the disturbance, Morgan
hooked Ma'och in Slop Drop position, but turned it into a Michinoku Driver. It was an
awesome move, and it was more than enough to put his opponent away for the three count.
As he walked back to the dressing room, Morgan had some words with Alexander, and seemed
upset about something. Probably about Ma'och and him having heat with Tony Jones over the
Jimmy Ripp "New Years" situation.
Winner: Donovan Morgan in 9:10 ( * * ½ )

HTTP://WWW.CLICKMOVIE.COM* WESTSIDE PLAYAZ 2000 (Robert Thompson &
Boyce LeGrande - with ICEBOX)
vs
The Ballard Brothers

The two top tag teams on the West Coast today met in the ring, and what a match it was. I
don't think i have ever heard a crowd as loud for an APW match as this one. The WSP2K are
so over, it isn't even funny. They are the most exciting team in APW, and one of the top
in all of wrestling. The double team moves rivals that of greats like The British Bulldogs
or Midnight Express. ICEBOX did a great job at ringside keeping the fans behind his men.
So many great moves in this match, which was easily the best on the show. The most
impressive being when Thompson picked up both Ballards on his shoulders (one on each) and
LeGrande hit them with a Double Blockbuster off the top rope. That move got such a pop,
the roof almost came off the Healdsburg Armory.
The hard fought battle finally came to an end in 15:25 when WSP2K hit thier finishing move
The Drive-By (Thompson legdrop off top and LeGrande splash off top simultaneously).
1...2...3! WSP2K get the win, and the fans go wild. What a great match this was. I am
looking forward to a rematch someday soon.

APW UNIVERSAL TITLE MATCH - Special
Enforcer Referee
"Natural One" Michael Modest
vs
"Shooter" Tony Jones
The special Enforcer Referee was announced, and it was Vinny Massaro.

Massaro is a former APW referee, and was one of the all-time bests at that
position. The match was a solid wrestling match, lots of takedowns and mat wrestling.
Massaro did a great job officiating...very fair, and down the middle. Jones hit a few nice
suplexes, as did Modest. These two are such an even match everytime, however Jones may
have the advantage with his size.
Shane Dynasty, sitting a few rows back seemed to have a strong interest in this match for
some reason. About 10 minutes into the match, Jones hit a Full Nelson Suplex, and then
locked Modest in a headlock. He took him over for the pin, and suprisingly, got the
victory! 1...2...3....Tony Jones was the NEW APW UNIVERSAL CHAMPION!!! Vinny Massaro
looked doubtful about making the count, but there was nothing he could do. Modest's
shoulders were down the entire time.
Shane Dynasty jumped the guardrail, and congratulated Jones on becoming the new APW
Universal Champion. Jones & Dynasty walked back to the dressing room together,
carrying the belt, with thier arms raised in victory.
Modest was furious, and he couldn't believe he was no longer the champion. He attacked
Massaro, and the two of them tussled on the mat for a few seconds, until APW security
broke them apart. Massaro walked back to the dressing room, trying to explain that he had
no choice but to count. Modest was hot, and looked like he wanted to destory anything in
his path. Security escorted him back to the locker room, and the show came to an end.
Winner: Tony Jones in 10:54 (NEW APW Universal Champion) ( * * ½ )

Jermz Thoughts
An all around great show, it didn't last too long...about 3 hours. The matches were
good, and the crowd was great. They were really into a few of the guys, mainly WSP2K and
Chris Daniels. Daniels got some major heat, and i have never heard an APW show that loud
thoughout an entire match as they were for WSP2K/Ballards.
All my years as a Kwame Kamoze fan, and finally, the WSP's are over :) Looking forward to
this weekends shows in Santa Maria & Lompoc. Hopefully the fans will be as loud as
they were tonight. Looked to be about 400 in attendance, but sounded like twice the
amount.
Didn't understand the end to Jones/Modest...something must be up, and i think Dynasty is
behind it. Modest should have kicked out on that headlock takedown. Also, the
Ma'och/Morgan vs. Jones thing is pretty good...a real life story has carried into the
ring. Jones also did good on the mic tonight, the best i have heard from him. He is
getting better at all aspects of the sport. Glad to see Donovan Morgan, Jardi Frantz,
Vance Vain & Moondog Moretti back.
Things are looking good right now, and after a successfull show, they head down south,
about a 5 hour drive, to test the waters of Southern Cali.
Looking forward to it. Great show tonight...Boston Idol would have loved it
