October 29th 1999 - Halloween Hell 3
San Francisco, Ca. - SF State University
|
|
Without a doubt the most highly anticipated
show of the year has come and gone. Hardcore APW fans wait all year for the annual
Halloween Hell, and this show left nobody disappointed. Lots of action, lots of great
matches and lots of suprises were in store for the great SF fans on this historic night.

Interview With Shane Dynasty
Shane Dynasty started off the show with an interview. He first talked a lot of trash to
the San Franciso State fans, showing that even though he had a fallout with the rest of
Dynasty Inc., he sure hasn't changed his attitude. Dynasty called out his former business
partner Jason Deadrich (20% owner of APW). Deadrich came out (along with Miss TnA) and
jawed with Dynasty about thier breakup. The two of them showed that there were no signs of
them making up and reforming the group. Maxx Justice & Bison Smith came to the ring to
backup Deadrich. Dynasty said they need to change the name of thier group (Dynasty Inc.)
because that was his name, and he would sue them if they didn't. Just then, Bison &
Maxx attacked Dynasty, laying him out in the middle of the ring. Even Miss TnA got
involved, as she slapped Dynasty after he had been beaten by the two biggest men in APW.
Deadrich left the ring followed by his posse', Maxx Justice, Bison Smith & TnA.

18 Man Battle Royal

Yet another great Battle Royal, which was hot from beginning to end. Here is the
order of elimination for the match...
1. Jason Goodwin
2. Seymour Snott
3. Sweetie Pie
4. George C. Snott
5. PsYcHo Ward
6. Ma'och The Magician
7. JJ Perez
8. Boom Boom Comini
9. Bison Smith
10. Larry Brisco
11. Lil Dic Grimes
12. Frank Murdoch
13. Shane Ballard
14. Shannon Ballard
...This left four men in the ring. The menacing "La Migra" Maxx Justice, the
sneaky king of Battle Royal's "Mack Daddy" Jimmy Ripp and the "Westside
Playaz 2000" Robert Thompson & Boyce LeGrande.
Boyce worked on Justice in the corner and set him on the top turnbuckle for a top rope
rana. However, Justice promptly tossed Boyce over his head, sending him crashing to the
floor for elimination. Justice then went after Bomber, and the two of them brawled while
Jimmy Ripp sat in the corner watching. The two superstars let thier tempers get the best
of them, and at the 11:25 mark, they both went over the top rope, and to the floor.
Leaving Ripp in the ring, alone, as the winner of the 18-Man Battle Royal.
Winner: Jimmy Ripp

"Mad
Mosher" Boom Boom Comini
vs
Jason Goodwin

Before this match, Goodwin let it be known that he would now be
known as Vanilla Frost. His music played, and he danced in the middle of the ring. This
was perhaps one of the funniest things i have ever seen in APW! Boom Boom came out and got
down to business, totally squashing Goodw...i mean, Frost :)
Boom Boom used his strength to put him out, in what may be record time. The big splash was
enough to finish off the cocky rookie in 2:06.
Winner: Boom Boom Comini ( * * )

THE SNOTT BROTHERS
George C. & Seymour
vs
FREAK SHOW
Ma'och The Magician & Sweetie Pie
(with Cherry Bomb)
This match got underway quickly, as Cherry Bomb was in the ring
distributing free merchandise to lucky APW fans, when The Snotts came out and asked if she
would "go out" with them. Once she declined thier offer, they started to bully
her around. However, the bullying was cut short by The Freak Show. They hit the ring and
went to work on The Snotts. This was a good match, but cut short, when Ma'och battled
Seymour on the floor, and the distracted Sweetie Pie got rolled up in the middle of the
ring by George C., giving the Snott's a very unexpected victory at the 2:14 mark.
Winners: The Snott Brothers ( * * )

Frank Murdoch
vs
Larry Brisco
This was one of the best matches of the night. I wish the fans
had been into it more, and i wish it had went a bit longer, but you have to expect that
from wrestling fans in the 90's. Murdoch & Brisco worked thier butts off, keeping all
the action right in the middle of the ring. A very solid, technical match. They are two of
the most evenly matched wrestlers i have ever seen. Very similiar styles, except Murdoch
does a little more brawling than Brisco. Lots of near falls, roll-ups, counters and great
amatuer style wrestling action throughout the match.
The end came after Brisco missed a top rope splash, and got rolled up in an inside cradle
by Murdoch, to give the APW legend the victory in 6:16.
Winner: Frank Murdoch ( * * * )

"Lil" Dic Grimes
(with Cherry Bomb)
vs
"Jiggy" Jack Perez
Perhaps the craziest member of The Freak Show going one-on-one
with the smallest man in APW. However, just because Perez is small, that doesn't mean he
can't get the job done. He also has the biggest heart in the promotion.
Grimes pretty much toyed with him for the entire match. That is until JJ came back with a
hurricarana from the top rope, tossing "Lil" Dic to the floor. JJ then hit a
dive through the ropes, followed by an amazing swinging DDT from the apron to the floor!
The fans went wild. But the comeback was short-lived as Dic Grimes nailed the face-eraser,
followed by the Grimes family favorite...The Grimes Cutter. That was more than enough for
"Lil" Dic to take home the win in 5:48.
Winner: "Lil" Dic Grimes ( * * * )

Interview With The Mack Daddy XXXPress
"Mack Daddy" Jimmy Ripp & "Shoot Daddy" Tony Jones came to
the ring for an interview. Jones gave the best interview of his short career, as he talked
about his history of wrestling in that very building (SF State Gym), and his college
wrestling coach, Coach Jensen. Jones told a story of how Jensen benched him during his
college wrestling days, to push someone much older than he was. Jones seemed very bitter
towards his old coach, and verbally tore him apart. Jensen sat in the audience and took
it. Jones also said he was finally ready to take the Internet Championship away from
Michael Modest tonight, in his very own school.

Jimmy Ripp's X-Challenge
Jones then turned the mic over to Jimmy Ripp then. Ripp made his usual challenge to anyone
in the back that had the guts to come out and fight him. He mentioned the fact that for
the past 389 days he had gone undefeated in APW. The challenge was answered by Freak
Show's "PsYcHo" Chris Ward. Ripp and Ward went at it for a moment, and after
about a minute of brawling, the lights went out. When they came back on, "Lil"
Dic Grimes was in the ring behind Ripp. Grimes tore Ripp apart, tossing him around the
ring easier than he did with JJ Perez. The other members of The Freak Show (Cherry Bomb,
Ma'och & Sweetie Pie) came out to cheer Dic on. "Lil" Dic hit the B*tch Slap
on Ripp and went for the pin. However there was no referee in the ring to count the pin.
Grimes declared himself victorious. But will Ripp count his streak as staying alive, since
he was never counted out be a ref? Tony Jones came out after the beating, and carried Ripp
back to the dressing room.

THE BUSHWACKERS
(Luke & Butch)
vs
THE BALLARD BROTHERS
(Shane & Shannon)
This was a family feud if ever there was one. The Ballard
Brothers and The Bushwacker Cousins battled it out for a good solid 13 minute match. I had
my doubts about this match before it started, but it was very entertaining. The
Bushwackers were absolutely adored by the SF State fans, as chants of
"Bush-Wack-Ers...Bush-Wack-Ers" rang out through the arena.
It was a very solid tag team match, with the Ballard Brothers having control for much of
the match, until a hot tag to Luke got the fans going wild, and brought the men from down
under back in the match. The Ballards tried to use a chair, but it backfired on them and
Shane hit Shannon on accident. The Bushwackers then used thier pattented 2-Man Battering
Ram to get the victory, much to the delight of the crowd.
Winners: The Bushwackers ( * * * )

WESTSIDE PLAYAZ 2000
"Brown Bomber" Robert Thompson & "Bad Boy" Boyce LeGrande
(with ICEBOX)
vs
"La Migra" Maxx Justice & Bison Smith
(with Jason Deadrich & Miss TnA)
This was a fantastic tag team match. The momentum went back and
forth, with both teams showing why they are tops in APW today. Thompson & LeGrande's
double team moves just keep getting better every time. They gel together so well, you
would think they had been teaming for years. Justice & Bison are pure strength, and
although they look like a couple of bullys, they really can adjust to almost any wrestling
style.
The intensity of Maxx Justice & Robert Thompson is absolutely amazing. Justice hit
some brutal moves in this match. Like the sky-high backdrop on Boyce & also a brutal
powerbomb or two. "Bad Boy" was taking a terrible beating at the hands of
Deadrich's boys. Just then, out of the dressing room, it was Shane Dynasty dressed in
street clothes. He crouched down at ringside watching the match closely. Fans knew that
the only thing on his mind was making life miserable for his former alies. WSP2K finally
took control of the match again. Boyce & Maxx battled outside the ring, and Bomber
& Bison were inside. Bomber went for a top rope flipping-senton splash, but Bison
moved out of the way. He went for the pin, but Shane Dynasty snuck into the ring and hit
Smith with a steel chair, knocking him out. Boyce & Bomber both got on the top rope
(two seperate corners), and hit Bison with double frog-splashes! A move they are calling
"The Drive-By". That was more than enough to finish off Bison. WSP2K get the win
in a great 13 min. match.
Afterwards, Shane Dynasty got into the ring and told WSP2K that he helped them get the
win, so they owed him one. Bomber & Boyce both agreed that the only thing they owed
him, was a "beat down". They tore Shane up once again, hitting him with every
double team move in the book. Boyce hit a Hardy Boyz "Flip-Senton" that was
amazing, that was followed by Bomber's Frog-Splash. They left Dynasty laying in the ring
for the second time of the night. WSP2K danced with the fans and told Shane Dynasty that
he had just "Played Himself".
Winners: Westside Playaz 2000 ( * * * 1/2)

APW
Internet Championship
"Natural One" Michael Modest
vs
"Shoot Daddy" Tony Jones

It was time for the main event. SF State graduate Tony Jones was
wrestling the top Indy wrestler in the world for the Internet Championship right on his
own home turf. Modest & Jones, former APW Tag Team Champions. A side note, Jimmy Ripp
was not at ringside with Jones for this match. He was still in the back recovering from
his beating at the hands of Dic Grimes.
The match was pretty much all Modest for the first part, as he hit him with some great
moves, that would have put any normal wrestler out of action for weeks. Modest hit a
short-arm stunner and the downward spiral, two of his favorite moves, but ended up only
getting two counts. Jones (who looked to be in the best shape of his career) took the
advantage and used his suplexes & power moves to knock Modest around. This match
featured some of the best belly-to-back suplexes i have ever seen. Jones has so much
force, and he puts it all into every move he does. He is worth the price of the ticket
alone, and when he is in the ring with someone like Modest, it makes it that much better.
As the match went on, Coach Jensen came out to get a closer look at the match. It seemed
like he was rooting for Modest, as well he should, after the tounge lashing he got from
Jones earlier in the night. Jensen climbed on the apron to cheer Modest on, but the champ
leveled Jensen with a forearm, sending him falling to the ground. Then, the match took a
twist, as Jones hit referee Will Cuevas with a clothesline, sending him crashing to the
floor outside the ring. With Modest distracted, Jones nailed a belly-to-back suplex,
followed by his finisher...the belly-to-belly from the top rope. 2nd referee Matt Fischer
came to the ring to count 1...2...3!!! Tony Jones had pinned Michael Modest! But once
Cuevas woke up, he let Fischer know what had happened, and he reversed the decision,
declaring Modest the winner by disqualification, and giving him his title back. Jones was
visibly upset at the outcome of the match, and had a long talk with Coach Jensen
afterwards. Not sure where this relationship is headed, but i think we may be seeing more
from them soon.
Michael Modest was still the champion, and he left the ring yelling at Jones & Jensen.
I have been watching Modest for years, and i am sure he doesn't want to win the match that
way. Being the fighting champion he is, he would be willing to give Jones another title
shot anytime, anyplace.
Winner: Michael Modest (retains the APW Internet Championship) ( * * * * )

Jermz
Thoughts...
This was a fantastic APW show. However, i
will be honest and say it wasn't up to Halloween Hell standards. Not enough suprises
(which is what HH is known for). The wrestling was good, and a lot of matches were very
short, but i do think this was the best produced APW show ever. The timing with everything
was good, nothing went too long, and the fans never really had a chance to get tired. It
went a total of about 3 hours 15 minutes, which is perfect time if you include
intermission. Just a very crisp show, which reminded me of something The Big 3 would put
on.
All the matches were entertaining. I would have liked to see Murdoch's match go longer,
and i wish the fans had been behind Dic Grimes a bit more. Other than that, the crowd was
very good all night long. Tony Jones & Michael Modest did a great job, and i think
Jason Goodwin's debut was one of the funniest things i have seen in a long time. I can't
wait to see his ring enterance at the next show. Good show, and i had a great time. But it
ranks 3rd among Halloween Hell's.
Looking forward to the Fairfield show next month.
