Interview with Dynasty Inc.

intview_dynast.jpg (16498 bytes)

Shane Dynasty kicked off the show with his "TWD" crew (aka Dynasty Inc.), talking about getting the title back around the waist of Maxx Justice, and really trashing the San Jose fans. Jason Deadrich didn't seem very happy with the crowds reaction to them, as he even told Dynasty that he thought the fans would love him once he joined Dynasty Inc. Next, Dynasty called out Cholo Marquez, and told him he had a choice to make. He could either be a manager, or a referee, but not both. After about a minute of thinking, the Cholo ripped off his poncho and revealed a referee shirt. It looks like the original Senior Official in APW is back in the stripes. It was then announced that Max Marquez (no longer Cholo) would be referee for tonights main event between Justice & Massaro, and Dynasty Inc. wasn't too happy about it.

Vinnie Valentino
vs
"Man's Man" Nathaniel Sweete

valentino.jpg (16730 bytes)

The opening match saw a very hard fought battle between two up and coming young wrestlers. Valentino is very popular, and has lots of charisma. Sweete put up a good fight, trying to wear his opponent down. However, in the end Valentino nailed a Hip-Toss Neckbreaker combo move that suprised the "Man's Man" and put him on the mat for the three count in a solid opening match.
Winner: Vinnie Valentino ( * * 1/2 )

Interview with "Jiggy" Jack Perez

intview_perez.jpg (15097 bytes)

JJ Perez came out to the cheers of the crowd. He talked a little about former APW wrestler (now in ECW) Matt Hyson, who was about the same size as JJ, but still put up a good fight against whoever he got in the ring with - big or small. Perez said he wanted to carry on that tradition, and fight with the same amount of heart that Hyson did in his early years. Tonight he would be going up against Tony Jones who outweighs him by 100 pounds, and he promised to give it all he had.

"PsYcHo" Chris Ward
vs
"Enforcer" Jason C. Clay

ward.jpg (16991 bytes)

Clay, once again filling in for Chicano Flame came into this match unprepaired. He must not have had time to scout the "PsYcHo" because Chris Ward made very short work of him. Clay had a bit of offense, using his Flying Leg Lariat & a number of vicious Knife Edge Chops that you could hear four blocks away. However, once Ward locked on his new finisher, the "PsYcHo cLuTcH", Clay tapped-out and Ward was handed his second big victory of the weekend.
Winner: Chris Ward ( * * 1/2 )

"Filthy" Frank Murdoch &
James Watkins
vs
"Mad Mosher" Boom Boom Comini &
"Big Buffalo" Mark Smith

smith_pwrslam.jpg (14999 bytes)

A big tag team match was next on the card. The well over 600-pound team of Comini & Smith took an early advantage, using their size to overpower Watkins & Murdoch. Boom Boom is still one of the stiffest wrestlers in APW, and his clotheslines are lethal. He even did a huge 330 pound splash from the top rope! The fans were really behind Comini & Smith, and once their opponents took the advantage, the crowd did everything they could to get them back in it. The end of this exciting match came when Murdoch & Smith were alone in the ring, while Comini & Watkins battled on the outside. Murdoch nailed the "Big Buffalo" with the "Idaho Faceplant" and got the victory. Comini didn't seem too happy with Smith gettting pinned, but he has to remember, he is only a rookie, and he is still learning.
Winners: Murdoch & Watkins( * * 1/2 )

"Gorgeous" Michelle Starr
vs
"Tornado" Tony Kozina

michellestar.jpg (19632 bytes)

These two superstars from up north were back to see if Kozina could even up the score at 1-1. This match was a touch better than last nights, as most of their moves were a little more crisp. "Tornado" Tony hit an amazing Asai Moonsault onto the floor, sending Starr crashing into the guard rail. However, Kozina just not have learned much from last nights loss, because once again, it was the Michinoku Driver that put him away for the three count.
Winner: Michelle Starr ( * * 1/2 )

"Shoot Daddy" Tony Jones
(with Jardi Frantz)
vs
"Jiggy" Jack Perez

jones_pslam.jpg (15165 bytes)

JJ Perez was ready to meet his 265 pound challenger, and show the whole building that he has the heart of a lion. Jones found it rather amusing that Perez would think he could mount some offense against him, as just about every dropkick, chop or punch barely wobbled the "Shoot Daddy". Once Perez got Jones out onto the floor, he went with his air attack. An amazing dive through the ropes knocking Jones & Frantz down really got the crowd behind Perez. Jones came back with some hardcore suplexes, literally tossing JJ all around the ring. "Fly Daddy" Jardi Frantz was really obnoxious at ringside, usually taking Perez' attention away just enough to let Jones get the advantage again. The end came when Jones mounted Perez on the top rope, and hit him with a Belly-To-Belly Suplex from the top.
Winner: Tony Jones ( * * 1/2 )

"Teenage Sensation" Jefferey Peterson
vs
"Fly Daddy" Jardi Frantz
(with Tony Jones)

peterson.jpg (19170 bytes)

This was an outstanding match. Peterson & Frantz really had the fans jumping out of their seats in this one. These guys are very quick, highflying, risk-takers that aren't afraid to get hardcore either. Both men used some very hard chair-shots on each other, and the fight even went out into the crowd at one point. Once back in the ring, these two were spring-boarding all over the place - hitting flying dropkicks, hurricaranas, springboard moonsaults etc. Frantz even used RVD's move the "Van Daminator". These two teenagers are definatley the future of pro-wrestling. Frantz went for one of the most dangerous moves in wrestling, the Shooting Star Press, and missed! It was a sick bump, in which the "Fly Daddy" landed right on his face. Peterson got up and rolled him up with a hurricarana for the pin.
Winner: Jefferey Peterson ( * * * 1/2 )

3-WAY DANCE
"Funboy" Donovan Morgan
vs
"Bad Boy" Boyce LeGrande
vs
"Leprechaun" Erin O'Grady

funboy.jpg (19224 bytes)

The match I had been anticipating the most, the 3-Way Dance! It was great to see Erin O'Grady back in APW, and this had all the makings of a classic. Just replace Chris Cole with Boyce LeGrande, and you have the APW 3-Way Classic from 1997 (in which i gave * * * * 1/2). The match started out fast & furious, with each guy amazingly countering every move the other would attempt. Morgan played the back for awhile, letting O'Grady & LeGrande fight it out. However, everytime one of them went down, Morgan was right there to make the cover & go for a cheap win. At one point in the match, Morgan even convinced Boyce to work with him, which was a real suprise. Morgan & LeGrande double-teamed Lep, working him over good.
The match was climbing & climbing, ready to reach greatness, when Boyce LeGrande suplexed Donovan Morgan, dropping him right on his head. Morgan rolled out of the ring in pain and layed on the floor. O'Grady & LeGrande fought it out, while Morgan walked around the ringside area holding his shoulder. Meanwhile in the ring, Boyce hit Lep with his finishing move, the "Bad Boy Blockbuster", while Boyce tried to get up and make the pin, Donovan Morgan had already jumped into the ring and covered Erin O'Grady for a 3-count. The match ended faster than anyone expected, and it was all thanks to "Funboy" Donovan Morgan going for the cheap victory.
Was his shoulder really hurt? Or was it just a trick to fool LeGrande into forgetting about him for awhile? No matter what it was, Morgan was victorious, and the "Bad Boy" was outraged that he had a victory stolen from him.
Winner: Donovan Morgan ( * * * )

APW UNIVERSAL TITLE MATCH
"Gigolo" Vinny Massaro
(with Vanity)
vs
"La Migra" Maxx Justice
(with Dynasty Inc.)

max_doublechokeslam.jpg (16526 bytes)

This was the main event. It was the first ever APW Universal Title shot for the "Gigolo" Vinny Massaro. As he came to the ring, Massaro introduced his new valet, it was a very beautiful young lady named "Vanity", and she would be in Massaro's corner all night. Like Vinny says "Behind every great man, there is a great woman". Maxx Justice had all of Dynasty Inc. with him, probably the most intimidating group in all of wrestling today.
The match started with Vinny in the lead, using mat wrestling & some good takedowns to get Justice off his feet. You could really tell Massaro came into this match with a gameplan. He even walked the ropes (Undertaker style), coming down across the arm of the champ. When Justice was in control, he used his power moves to put Massaro down. Although Massaro is a pretty big guy, Justice still outweighed him by 50 pounds, and the guys at ringside didn't help the "Gigolo's" chances either.
Massaro started mounting a comeback in what was shaping up to be a great match. He tossed Justice into the corner, and went for an avalanche, but Justice pulled referee Max Marquez in the way, and Marquez went down. Little Dynasty Boy got into the ring wearing a referee shirt, trying to pull off Dynasty Inc's same old tricks - But just then, out of the audience, it was Robert Thompson! Yes...the "Brown Bomber" came into the ring wearing a referee shirt, and he put Little Nasty Boy out with a running powerbomb. Thompson was now the new referee for the title match. As Massaro & Justice battled on the outside of the ring, going at each other like two wild dogs, Shane Dynasty snuck up behind Thompson, and hit him with a chair, knocking him unconcious. ICEBOX put Bomber on his back, and hauled him out the exit, dumping him into the parking lot. Now who was going to be the referee???...Jason Deadrich!
Deadrich took off his jacket to reveal yet another referee shirt. Justice powerbombed Massaro & went for the pin - Deadrich was taking his time, but eventually got around to making the count - 1...2...NO! Rogue referee Max Marquez hit the ring and throws Deadrich out of the ring. Marquez began counting the pin - 1... 2... Suddenly, a vengeful grin comes to Marquez's face and he wags his finger at Justice, refusing to make the three count. Massaro kicked out at the last second! Maxx got in the ref's face but then turned his attention back to Massaro and was about to hit a chokeslam when Marquez hits him from behind with a low blow! Justice held himself in pain. Marquez had turned the tables on Dynasty Inc. The "Gigolo" grabbed Shane Dynasty's chair and whacked "La Migra" right in the skull. Massaro makes the cover - 1...2...3!!! New Champion! "Gigolo" Vinny Massaro is the NEW APW Universal Heavyweight Champion!
Winner: Vinny Massaro (NEW APW UNIVERSAL CHAMPION) ( * * * )

Jermz Thoughts

First off, congratulations are definatley in order for the new APW Universal Champion Vinny Massaro. He really deserves the title, and it is great being a long-time fan of APW, and seeing Vinny go from timekeeper to referee to wrestler and now he is the Champion of the Universe. Vinny works hard, and he loves the sport. He is someone that APW can be proud to call their champion. His new valet Vanity proved to be good luck on this night.
Good luck to Erin O'Grady, and his voyage to Mexico later this week. Truly an APW legend, always welcome back anytime. It was great to see good ol' Lep one last time live in an APW ring. We are all rooting for you, and hope to see you on our TV's sometime very soon.
Vinnie Valentino is becoming a superstar for APW. His mic work is very good, and he is very popular with all the fans. He works hard, and is becoming a very solid wrestler. I can't wait for his July 10th match against Tony Jones. It should be great.
Jefferey Peterson & Jardi Frantz put on a great match. It was the most hardcore APW has gotten since Vic Grimes left, and the fans loved it. Every once in awhile Justice might use a chair or table, but APW needs a little more of that. This really got the fans going. I don't want a lot of hardcore, just a little more. Frantz & Peterson are the future of the sport, and you can expect to hear lots from them in the next few years.
A pretty good show, to top off a pretty good weekend. I am looking forward to the next APW show, although no venues have been set for June yet. Could a return to the infamous APW Garage be in the future? We will have to wait and see.
