March 12, 1999 - "Too Hot To Handle Tour"
MT. Pleasant High - San Jose, CA

APW returned to Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose last night, and they put on one hell of a show for the fans. It looked to about 400 in attendance, and the crowd wasn't as loud as they have been in the past, but by the end of the card, the entire place was on their feet, witnessing the most supensefull APW main event in a long time. The opening of the show was great, as APW proved they can put on a show that rivals anything the Big 2 can do. They have the lights, the fog, the music and last night they debuted a dancing girl that breathed fire! She really got the fans into it giving out free merchandise, and getting everyone pumped up for the show. APW Superstar "Brown Bomber" Robert Thompson was in attendance still nursing his broken ankle. For fans that aren't aware, doctores have told Robert he may not be able to wrestle until next year! What a huge hole that has left APW with. One of the biggest superstars in APW history out all year. Get well soon "Bomber" we can't wait for you to return.

Interview with"Mack Daddy" Jimmy Ripp & The Mack Daddy XXXPress

Ripp basicly did what he does best, and trash talked to the entire Mt. Pleasant crowd. By the time he got out of the ring the fans were ready to kill him. Even with his short absence from APW, Jimmy Ripp proved that he is still "Half the size, twice the man & still talkin TRASH!"

14 Man Battle Royal

rumble.jpg (16235 bytes)

APW is known for having very good Battle Royals, and this one was no different. There was a new wrestler in the match, a masked man named Ultra Machine who didn't look familiar to me. He didn't do to well in the match, he was tossed out about ten minutes into it, and hardly got in any offense. As they always do, the Battle Royal got the fans out of their seats, cheering on their favorite. In a stunning upset, Vinny Massaro got a pinfall on Michael Modest to eliminate him (however, Massaro's legs were on the ropes). Jason Clay seems lost now that he doesn't have the XXXPress anymore. He looks very dark & depressed. I think Chicano Flame did very good in the Battle Royal, lasting all the way to the final four (Flame, LeGrande, Massaro & Justice) The three fan favorites ganged up on the 300 pound Justice, trying to get him over the top. Justice then started to comeback, and he threw Boyce onto the floor (through the ropes), and hit Massaro & Flame with a double clothesline. Justice was manhandling all three of these guys now. He hit Chicano Flame with a chokeslam and pinned him, and he hit a chokeslam on Vinny Massaro & pinned him too.
But meanwhile, Boyce was climbing up onto the top rope and he hit an unsuspecting Justice with a shoulderblock. Could Boyce score yet another victory over Justice here tonight? Justice whipped into the buckle, but the "Bad Boy" leaped to the top rope, and backflipped over Juctice's head. Justice did it again, and Boyce leaped to the top rope for a second time, but this time, being the crafty ring veteran that he is, Justice promptly shoved Boyce from behind, and he fell off the top rope onto the floor! Maxx Justice was the winner of the Battle Royal.
What a suprising ending, everyone thought Boyce was going to pull it off, but Justice quickly suprised everyone, ending the match with something I have never seen before. Justice was proving that he could get along fine without Shayne Dynasty in the building.

Winner: Maxx Justice ( * * * )

"Mad Mosher" Boom Boom Comini
vs
"Enforcer" Jason C. Clay
(with Nathaniel Sweete)

Like I said earlier, it doesn't look like Clay is into wrestling anymore, he looks very disturbed about something, and it is almost definatley his dismissal from the XXXPress. I feel sorry for Jimmy Ripp if Clay ever gets his hands on him. Nathaniel Sweete was pretty much Clay's lacky last night, as Clay started off the match shoving him into Boom Boom, so he could get an early advantage ( I don't think Nathaniel was too happy about that ). Not a bad match, these two are pretty evenly matched, and they are looking to climb the ladder to the Universal Championship. Comini overpowered Clay late in the match, showing that he is still a top contender for the Universal Title. Bodyslams, hard chops, elbow drops...all part of Comini's arsenal that he laid out on Clay. Boom Boom finished the "Enforcer" off with the Samoan Drop, completely squashing him. With this win, Boom Boom has earned a match against Micheal Modest for the following night in Hayward. Jason Clay seemed to have more on his mind than wrestling, and Nathaniel Sweete really need to get him out of this slump.

Winner: Boom Boom Comini ( * * )

"Filthy Frank Murdoch
(with "Funboy" Donovan Morgan)
vs
Vinnie Valentino

murdoch_bridge.jpg (14037 bytes)

A typical veteran vs. rookie match-up. Valentino is sill very green, but the fans are always behing him, and that seems to give him extra strength. He really enraged Murdoch & Morgan when he dumped a bottle of water on "Funboy's" head! The match went longer then expected, as Valentino put up a good fight against "Filthy" Frank, but he wasn't tough enough on this night as the dastardly Murdoch hit Valentino with a belly-to-back German suplex that laid him out for the 1...2...3 at the 9-minute mark.
Winner: Frank Murdoch ( * * )

Mighty Midgets
"Cowboy" Lang
vs
"Beautiful" Bobby Dean

I like the midgets, and I was very happy to see a new face in the sport, Bobby Dean looked good in the ring, and really played his role well. I have seen Lang in action about twenty times, and he is definately a legend in the sport. APW did a good job bringing them back, as the fans were on their feet going wild when they entered the ring. I think at least once in your life you have to see the Mighty Midgets, these guys may be small but they are tough. Lang pretty much played the young Bobby Dean, fooling him with every trick in the book. I think Bobby Dean needs to do some research so he won't be fooled so much next time. Lang rolled up Dean for the pinfall, and the fans loved it. Very funny match, not something I could watch an entire card of....but pretty fun every once in awhile
Winner: Cowboy Lang( * * )

"Shoot-Daddy" Tony Jones
(with Jimmy Ripp & Cholo Marquez)

vs
Chicano Flames

jones_bridge.jpg (11983 bytes)

After Ripp insulted Flame & his family, he left it up to Jones to try to handle the matter. Of course, it wasn't any big deal to the "Shoot Daddy" since he is one of the toughest men to ever step in an APW ring. Chicano Flame put up a great fight, this match was better than I had anticipated. I really hope good things are coming for the Chicano Flame. I know I was rooting for him the entire Battle Royal, and I was heart-broken when he was pinned by Justice. After a hard fought match by both men, Jones proved he was the better wrestler when he put Flame down with a chicken wing suplex into a pin. This was perhaps the most precise and crisp suplex,I have ever seen Jones perform. I think this move would have pinned Modest, much less Flame.
Winner: Tony Jones ( * * 1/2 )

After the match, Ripp had to add insult to injury, and hit the Peoples Elbow on Flame. Before this got too much out of hand, Modest, Massaro & Flame 2 came out to save him. Modest was seen yelling at Jones asking him how he could associate himself with the XXXPress. Remember, Modest & Jones were one of the greatest tag teams in the history of APW, and now Jones has turned his back on Modest.

"Bad Boy" Boyce LeGrande
vs
"Gigolo" Vinny Massaro
vs
Chicano Flame 2

boyce_plancha.jpg (15164 bytes)

What a match this was. A great 3-Way Dance between th top three contenders for Rookie of the Year. All out action in this one. Flame 2 had the fans going wild when he shocked everyone by hitting a Shooting Star Press! This kid is unreal! Vinny Massaro shocked even more people when he hit a moonsault off the second rope to the middle of the ring! I can't believe these guys, they are amazing! Vinny had a couple of new moves, one was a sit-down suplex type move in which the opponent is spun about 270 degrees and then dropped ( very hard to explain). And the second was a bodyslam, into a DDT ( just pick up a pillow and pretend you are bodyslamming it, and maybe you can come up with what I mean :) Massaro/LeGrande hit Flame 2 with a Double Rock Bottom! This match had everything you could want. They battled all over the place, with Flame 2 even hitting a tumbleweed splash from the top rope onto both men on the floor. When they were back in the ring, he went for a swinging DDT, but Massaro stopped him with the Bitch Slap, and LeGrande hit the Frog Splash, and both men covered Flame 2 for the pin. Flame 2 was eliminated, leaving Massaro & LeGrande one-on-one.These two put on a great match against each other as always. Boyce hit Vinny with a Swinging DDT off a chair....into the floor! They battled back and forth, lots of hot & heavy action, until Boyce suprised Vinny with his finishing move the Bad Boy Blockbuster, and put him down for the pin. Boyce was victorious in the 3-Way Dance. These three have got to have more potential than anyone in the sport today. Standing ovation to all three men for putting on such an exciting match. Boyce goes on to battle Maxx Justice in Hayward!
Winner: Boyce LeGrande( * * * 1/2 )

APW UNIVERSAL TITLE MATCH
"La Migra" Maxx Justice
vs
"Natural One" Michael Modest
( with special referee ICEBOX)

j_modest_shane.jpg (14576 bytes)

This was the big one that everyone was waiting for. The final showdown...the last chance for Justice. It was going to be a clean fight. One on one, with special enforcer referee 396 pound ICEBOX. no Shane Dynasty, no funny business...we would finally see who the best in APW really is.
The match started off very hot, and never slowed down. I have to say, ICEBOX did a great job as referee, he really enforced the rules and didn't back down from Modest or Justice at all. It was very different seeing Justice without Dynasty at ringside. He wrestled a bit more of a clean match. Sure the choking and clinched fists were still there, but there was no outside interference. Although, there was plenty outside cheerleading as Jason Deadrich clearly played favorites in this one, rooting for Justice.
About 10 minutes into this great battle that raged on back and forth, Modest had taken control. For some reason the newcomer to APW Ultra Machine , didn't like it one bit. He came out to ringside and cheered on Justice. Now that was fine, but somewhere he saw it fit to lay the boots to Modest everytime he hit the floor. Of course ICEBOX was being distracted by Justice everytime this occured. What was going on with Ultra Machine? Did Dynasty pay him to help out Maxx, since he was banned from the building?
Even through all of the obstacles that Justice had set up for Modest, he overcame them all. Modest had contol again. The match seemed to be well in hand. He hit Justice with the downward spiral, then he hit him with a Death Valley Driver! The end was near for BIG Maxx! Modest tossed Justice outside the ring onto Ultra Machine, and was going to jump over the top rope onto both men, however, all of a sudden, in a twist that nobody saw coming...ICEBOX hit Modest from behind! Oh My God! ICEBOX had turned against Modest! ICEBOX then grabbed him, and hit him with a chokeslam! Modest was knocked out. Meanwhile, Jason Deadrich was jumping with joy at ringside...he was so happy he got into the ring to celebrate. But the match was not over, there had been no final bell! ICEBOX took off his referee shirt, and was wearing a shirt that said "Justice Has Been Served". This was a total disgrace! I couldn't believe my eyes. Roland Alexander called for other referees to come to the ring, however ICEBOX met them with a chokeslam. Referee's JJ Perez & Matt Fischer both got slammed out of their shoes. Then Ultra Machine got into the ring, and unmasked...it was SHANE DYNASTY!!! OH MY GOD! This was getting insane. Modest was still knocked unconcious. ICEBOX taunted fans outside the ring, and Jason Deadrich took off his own shirt, and was wearing a referee's shirt. Justice chokeslammed Modest again, and put him down for the pin. Deadrich counted three on Modest, and there was a NEW APW Universal Heavyweight Champion.
Nobody could believe that Dynasty could have came up with such a plan. The fans were on their feet, with their mouths open wide. They couldn't believe what they were seeing! They couldn't believe that they even thought of paying $30 for WCW's Uncensored this weekend, and not seeing APW LIVE! :)
Deadrich took off his belt and whipped the beaten Modest with it. Other wrestlers came to the rescue, but they were held off by ICEBOX & Justice. Dynasty & Deadrich (D&D Inc. ??) whipped Modest over and over with the belt. There was nobody to save him. Then all of a sudden, security gaurd Steve Stoneburg came into the ring. He nailed Dynasty with a stunner, and the fans went absolutely wild! He hit a stunner on Deadrich, and cleared the ring. Finally someone had saved Modest from this terrible beating he was getting. Deadrich, Dynasty, Justice & ICEBOX walked back to the dressing room with their arms raised in victory, and the Universal Title around Justice's waist.
The other wrestlers helped Modest to the back, and the show was over. Ending one of the most suspensfull and exciting main events in the history of APW, that had a crowd that was pretty much dead all night long, on their feet begging for more.

Winner: Maxx Justice ( * * * 1/2 )

Jermz Thoughts

APW did it again. Another great night of action. Who would have thought Shane Dynasty was under the mask of Ultra Machine ( I talked to 4 different people after the show, and none of them knew it was going to be him). And who would have thought ICEBOX was going to turn against Modest, and be the man that costed him the APW Universal Championship? Well tonight is another show, another town. Should be a good one as Justice defends hes newly won title against Boyce LeGrande...Modest defends the Internert title against Boom Boom Comini & the Mighty Midgets are back, as is the Battle Royal.
